According to at least one analyst , the LAN may die an other death thanks to what he is calling “ de - perimeterization . ” As firms move more towards radio set , the day may soon come where each reckoner has its own internet connection “ with appropriate security department technology”—skipping the LAN completely . Performance and dependability hurdles must be overwhelm , but it is entirely plausible that one day , average computers will have a wireless Gb connexion at once to the internet . finally , the LAN will give way to an all - encompassing WAN .
