Was my use ofthe last few episodes of Gothamgenuine , or some kind of Stockholm syndrome ? Was it easy to find the goofy fun in this show because I had made peace with it , or was I lying to myself ? I do n’t recognise . All I know is that last night ’s episode , “ Beasts of Prey , ” was pretty wicked .
As is often the pillowcase with Gotham , it was less an installment of a TV serial publication and more a collecting of disparate scene that had nothing to do with each other , and very little of upshot anyways . rent ’s get the side stuff out of the way first .
• Pisces the Fishes escape from Dulmacher ’s house of horrors with a small selection of fellow prisoners . Of naturally this require her tricking Dulmacher and lie to some of her other fellow prisoners , which is startlingly easy to do given that Fish has done nothing but conjuring trick and deceive people since she was captured by plagiariser . She inexplicably leave Dulmacher alive ( alone so he can come back before the finale ) and gets shot , but is still able-bodied to pirate a helicopter and take off . Again , if I think that this was go to have ramification for literally anybody other than Fish , I might be interested , but I do n’t and it was n’t .
• Alfred still has no idea how medicine or the healing physical process works and hurt himself within endorsement of deciding to hunt after Reggie . Bruce and Selina take up the case , which ends with them finding Reggie in a drug den , Reggie explaining who hire him , although I do n’t make love if Bruce realizes it ’s someone from Wayne Enterprises ’ board or not . Reggie take a crap some threats , Bruce thinks about pushing Reggie out a window in what is hands - down Gotham ’s silly scene , but is stopped with Cat tug him or else . So Cat just murdered a dude in front of Bruce Wayne . This could be interesting if I trusted Gotham to wring some factual fight between the two tyke out of it , but I do n’t .
• The Penguin gets a eatery as some sort of future location to kill Don Maroni . It involves in writing , on - screen overrefinement and it ’s neither necessary nor interesting .
All that go out is Gordon and the Case o ’ the Week . This time , a young cop gives him an unsolved murder of a girl who conk out overleap for four months and was just find murdered . You do n’t want to be the World ’s Greatest Detective to figure out Gordon ’s being correct up — you barely need to have paid attention — but of course Gordon has no clue that he ’s investigate the Ogre , a in series killer who also murder the loved ones of any cop who investigates him . It ’s why the Ogre ’s never been caught , why no one at the GCPD ever mentions him or his cases , and why Commissioner Loeb made sure that Gordon began enquire the case .
That … that ’s middling much it , really . Gordon does some investigating , and Bullock does some bitching , but it ’s all just makeweight until someone mentions that the girl was find oneself with a broken adhesive plaster heart and soul by her body , and Bullock realizes who the culprit is . Gordon briefly confronts Loeb , and windfall , the rest is saved for next episode . It would be moderately dire if it were n’t for the Ogre , this week ’s scoundrel , play by Heroes alum Milo Ventimiglia . His serial killer whale is very obviously Patrick Bateman from American Psycho with a misrepresented desire for the consummate family relationship ( and the sexual activity - straining room from 50 Shades of Gray ) , but since he ’s only loosely based on a DC baddie , Gotham has the freedom to lento bring out his character as defend to it being completely obvious from the first moment .
Granted , Gotham does n’t do much with him , but still , it ’s nice to see a character we do n’t immediately know everything about . Hopefully this will keep on in the next installment ; perhaps give Gordon his own archenemy is precisely what Gotham needs . I wo n’t hold my breath , though . There are only three more episode left in Gotham ’s initiatory season , and I ’m suffer a hard time imagining what the show can possibly do to raise the stakes for a climactic finis .
Let me put it another way : At one point in “ Beasts of Prey , ” Oswald Cobblepot obliviously walk behind Bruce Wayne while he ’s doing some investigating . I was genuinely aroused to see these two future foes divvy up the covert , even just for a bit . Then I realized having two characters being on - screen at the same time but not interacting with each other was literally the most exciting present moment in the entire episode .
If that does n’t sum up all of Gotham ’s problem , I do n’t know what does .
Assorted Musings :
• Edward Nygma , when ask to hunt down some wanting grounds : “ I will solve this puzzle , sir ! ” JESUS @#$%ING CHRIST .
• So I was pass to make a joke that the Ogre was Jess from Gilmore Girls all grown up , as both characters were dally by Milo Ventimiglia , and because Jess was a huge asshole on GG . My married woman pointed out that Jess did n’t have enough ambitiousness to be a serial killer , however , and I had to concede the tip .
• It looks like the Ogre get his mitts on Barbara next week , which actually made me laugh out loud . The fact that the show actually thinks we might be worried about her character is deeply , deeply screaming to me .
• There was also a shot of Nygma holding a knife and express joy maniacally in the “ next calendar week on ” preview . I do n’t know who he hit , but I do know that anything he does will be spectacularly unearned .
• If someone could get me a gif of lil ’ Bruce Wayne getting ready to push Reggie out the window , his hands shaking in rage like he ’s in a understood movie from the 1920s , I ’d be most appreciative . Update : AWConnis my hero .
