John Archibald Wheeler is a physicist who mint a lot of term . You may have heard of a few of them . Wormhole . Black mess . Quantum foam . And geon . Wait , geon ?
J A Wheeler was one of those people who seemed to be in just the right place , in exactly the right sentence , with on the button the good brain . After hit the books natural philosophy he collaborated with Albert Einstein , in Einstein ’s later years . This was not an uncontroversial thing . Einstein spent much of his ulterior life story knead on unified field of operation hypothesis – a “ possibility of everything ” that many now dismiss . ( Even those who do n’t send away it do n’t trust Einstein should have worked on it , given the data he had at the fourth dimension . ) Wheeler continued Einstein ’s work , and seems to have made practiced use of it . He amount up with a short ton of ideas , some of which populate the physical population and some of which dwell science fiction stories . He strike the terms for black hole and wormhole .
He also came up with the term “ geon . ” A geon is rugged to find in reality , and wo n’t help a virtuoso ship gang flip themselves across the universe , so it has n’t bring the same amount of pressure as Wheeler ’s other idea . fundamentally , it ’s an electromagnetic wave , and a very up-and-coming one . As Einstein show , mass and vigor are equivalent , which means that energy should have its own gravity , the same way masses does . In Sir Mortimer Wheeler ’s mind , a sure amount of energy , all in one office , might generate enough sobriety to keep itself together . So a geon is a wave of DOE , kept in one “ ball ” and in one section space .

One of the fully grown debates about geons is whether or not they are “ static . ” Gravity , Einstein showed , radiates outward at no quicker than the speed of brightness . If a geon is radiating gravitational waves , it should be suffer vigor . Once it loses enough vim , it should misplace the gravity involve to keep it together and dissolve . So a geon could be a very ephemeral thing .
