You ’re a coffeeshop barista , and today you ’re quick for the rush . Apron on , you launch the doors to welcome the deluge of customers . Except today , it ’s a trickle . But why ? Maybe because Google says you ’ve belong out of business sector .
Asthe New York Times study , the scenario outline above is astonishingly — and disappointingly — vulgar , and probably the dirty work of competitors looking for a quicker vaulting horse . For a store or business to be list as finis , all one needed to do is report it to Google on Google Place ’s “ Report a Problem ” section . Then , after a seemingly nonexistent vetting process , Google will lean you as”Permanently Closed ” for all to see . Even if you have a special come up on Belgian waffle . Not cool .
Meanwhile , business will often have no idea this happened unless they stop themselves . Some have had luck fixing the issue . Others have n’t . According to theNYT :

The proprietor of a shut business , and customers who know better , can press a release note “ not genuine , ” which appears by all “ reportedly unsympathetic ” and “ permanently closed ” listings . In some instance , owners say , a business will “ open ” shortly thereafter . But other owners , like [ Charlene Cowan , who own and operates Macademia Meadows Farm , a bottom - and - breakfast in Naalehu , Hawaii ] , say that the push button does n’t work , or that it take a hebdomad to have any effect . Still others say that immediately after clicking the “ not true ” button , their business organization is like a shot “ closed ” again .
Google has responded recently by alerting owners if their clientele have been for good close on Google Places . It should n’t have been this easy to exclude down a shop in the first plaza . [ NYT ]
