Timur Civan was not content with the lens offerings for his Canon 5DmkII , so he outfitted it with a Wollensak 35 millimeter F5.0 Cine - Velostigmat lens of the eye from 1908 . That ’s over a hundred years of picture taking history in one camera . And it work !

I have an upcoming photography project that needs a vintage smell . ab initio i was going to buck it on 4×5 bombastic format film , but found the equipment and processing cost prohibitory . My supporter , a Russian electron lens technician , who loves nothing more than to frankenstein equipment , was assisting me in building the 4×5 camera . After we abandon the 4×5 solution , i put the project on back burner . This morning he called me into his store on NYC . He has something for me … . He found in a corner of random parts , hidden inside anther electron lens this precious stone . A circa 1908 ( possibly in the beginning ) 35 mm crystalline lens . Still function , mostly brass , and not virtually as much dust or fungus as one would think after sitting in a box for over a hundred years . This lens is a piece of motility picture history , and at this degree rare beyond words . So i say to him , “ Wow … what do you have in mind ? ” he smile , and enounce , ( in the thick russian accent you may think ) ” i can make this set EF you know … ” my heart twinkled , and then 6 nail biting hours later , he had it finish . My Russian Lens technician is a harebrained scientist and he took what sounded like an angle Cuban sandwich to the electron lens to make its remove the flange space and the mirror …… . This lens system ’ time value is undecipherable . its sort of on loan . It ’s the only lens of its kind on a 5D … or any digital for that subject .
Its funny while i was dissipate these , EVERY photographer i check stopped and asked me about the lens … it just attend so goofy on there .
